Forbes Park, Makati: The Pioneer of Gated Communities in the Country

 

Forbes Park, Makati is the pioneer of gated communities in the Philippines.  According to the book, Fortress America: Gated Communities in the United States written by Blakely, EJ / Snyder, MG. (1999), gated communities are residential areas with restricted access in which public spaces are normally privatized. 

Forbes Park, Makati was named after William Cameron Forbes—the American Governor-General of the Philippines from 1909 to 1913, who brought polo to the country.  It was in 1948 when the Ayala family broke ground in Makati.

Some notable personalities living a fabulous life in Forbes Park are the likes of former actress and socialite Gretchen Barretto with businessman Tony Boy Cojuangco, interior designer/columnist Tessa Prieto-Valdes and Ben Chan of Bench clothing empire.
